Two Rajasthan favourites, two different weddings
Jaipur and Udaipur are both beautiful, both in Rajasthan, and both have wonderful palace and heritage venues. But they suit different weddings. Jaipur is bigger, closer and has more choice; Udaipur is smaller, more romantic and more exclusive.
Cost
For a comparable three-day wedding of 200 guests, Udaipur is usually 15–30% more expensive. The top lakeside palaces charge a premium for exclusivity, lake-view rooms cost more, and most guests will fly. Jaipur has more hotels at every price and many guests can drive. Model both in the budget calculator, then compare room needs with the guest stay calculator.
Getting there
From Delhi NCR, Jaipur is a comfortable road trip, which lets families charter buses and keeps travel cheap. Udaipur is best reached by air; flights fill up and fares rise on wedding weekends. If many of your relatives prefer not to fly, Jaipur is the kinder choice.
Setting and experience
Jaipur offers forts on the hills, carved havelis and courtyards, and a lively folk culture. Udaipur offers water: boat arrivals, lakeside terraces and sunsets over Lake Pichola. Both photograph beautifully; the feel is simply different — Jaipur grand and festive, Udaipur serene and intimate.
Guest count
If your list is over 250, Jaipur gives you far more venues that can host everyone under one roof. Udaipur’s best palaces are small; large weddings there often move to hill resorts outside the city.
Food, music and local flavour
Both cities offer superb Rajasthani food — dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi, laal maas and ghevar — and both have excellent folk performers, from Manganiyar singers to Kalbeliya dancers. Jaipur’s larger wedding industry means more choice of caterers, decorators and entertainers at every price, and more competition keeps prices honest. Udaipur’s vendors are fewer but very used to working in palace settings with heritage rules. In either city, ask your venue which vendors they have worked with before; heritage properties often have strict rules about fire, fixing décor to walls and noise.
Our verdict
Pick Jaipur for larger, Delhi-heavy guest lists and budgets under ₹80 lakh. Pick Udaipur when the lake setting is the point and the guest list is intimate. Read the full Jaipur and Udaipur guides.
