Banquet hall vs farmhouse

Banquet hall or farmhouse for your wedding? Compare costs, capacity, décor, timings, weather and vendor freedom, with a clear verdict.

Reception stage with floral decor
The short answer A banquet hall is usually cheaper and simpler for 300–700 guests, with food-inclusive packages from ₹1,200–₹2,500 per plate and one bill. A farmhouse costs 20–50% more once rent, catering, décor and generators are added, but gives open-air space, later timings and free choice of vendors.
Option A

Banquet hall

An indoor, air-conditioned hall sold per plate, with food, basic décor and service included.

Best for: Budget-conscious weddings of 300–700 guests who want one bill and no weather worries.

vs
Option B

Farmhouse

Private land with lawns rented by the function; you bring caterers, décor and lighting.

Best for: Couples who want open-air pheras, late nights and full control of the look and food.

Our verdict

Banquet hall or Farmhouse?

Choose a banquet hall if budget and simplicity matter most, or if your date falls in summer or monsoon. Choose a farmhouse for a winter wedding when the setting and freedom are worth 20–50% more and you have a planner or organised family to manage vendors.

The short version

A banquet hall is a package: one per-plate price covers the space, food, basic décor, service and cleaning. A farmhouse is a blank canvas: you rent the land and bring everything else. That single difference explains almost every row in the table above. Banquet halls are cheaper and simpler; farmhouses are more beautiful and more flexible, but cost more and take more work.

Cost: why the farmhouse is usually dearer

Farmhouse rent often looks similar to a banquet quote, but it covers only the land. Add catering at ₹1,800–₹3,500 per plate, décor for an empty lawn, lighting, a generator, a shamiana for the buffet, washrooms if needed, and security, and a 300-guest function can cost two or three times more. Put both options into the budget calculator to see what each leaves for the rest of the wedding.

Space and guest count

Banquet halls have fixed capacities, and the published number is often for standing guests. Farmhouses can stretch to very large weddings, but space for seating, buffet and dance floor still needs planning. The venue size calculator gives you a floor-area target for either.

Weather and season

This is often the deciding factor. In Delhi NCR, farmhouses are wonderful from November to March. From April to September, heat and monsoon rain make outdoor functions risky and expensive to protect. Banquet halls are air-conditioned and weatherproof all year. See indoor vs outdoor.

Freedom versus simplicity

Farmhouses usually let you choose any caterer, decorator and DJ, and many allow later timings. Banquet halls usually insist on in-house food and may limit decorators. If you have strong ideas about food or design, the farmhouse wins. If you want one contact person and one bill, the banquet hall wins.

Questions to settle before you decide

  • What month is the wedding, and what is the backup if it rains or is very hot?
  • How many guests will attend each function, not just how many are invited?
  • Do you have someone — a planner or a relative — who can manage five or six separate vendors?
  • How important is it for the music and pheras to run past 10 pm?
  • Is food the thing your families care about most? If so, which option lets you hire the caterer you trust?

Our verdict

For most families with a budget under ₹20 lakh or a summer date, a good banquet hall is the smarter choice. For a winter wedding where the setting matters and you have help to coordinate vendors, a farmhouse is worth the premium. Browse options in our Delhi venue guide.
