    Methodology

    How this is calculated

The venue size calculator adds up the space for guest seating, dining, buffet counters, the stage or mandap, the dance floor and service areas for your function, then adds 25% for guest movement. Use it to shortlist banquet halls and lawns or to brief your tent provider.

Seating area = guests × space per seated guest (17.5 sq ft round tables, 16 long tables, 10.5 theatre, 15 mixed) × 0.46.

Dining adds 2.8 sq ft per guest for a buffet or 3.4 for plated service, and buffet counters add 1.2 sq ft per guest.

Stage or mandap and service space are set by event type (for example 800 and 400 sq ft for the wedding); the dance floor starts at 900 sq ft for 500 guests at a wedding and scales with guests to the power 0.55.

A 25% circulation allowance is added and the total is rounded up to the next 250 sq ft. Dimensions assume a rectangle about 1 : 1.8.

    • Fire and safety rules may need wider exits and aisles than shown.
    • Rows are rounded to the nearest 10 sq ft.

    Questions

    Frequently asked

With round tables and a buffet, a 500-guest wedding needs about 10,250 sq ft including stage, dance floor, buffet, service areas and circulation. Theatre seating with no dining brings a sangeet for 500 down to about 6,250 sq ft.

Yes. The suggested dimensions are a starting point for a tent or shamiana. Outdoors, also plan space for the entrance, parking, generators, kitchens and service access.

It is the space for aisles, queues and guests moving between areas. The calculator adds 25% of the functional area for circulation.

Roughly. The illustration uses the suggested footprint and the calculated area of each zone, but real layouts depend on the venue shape, pillars, entrances and décor.

For a sangeet with 500 guests, about 1,200 sq ft. The dance floor grows with guests, but more slowly, because not everyone dances at once.
