    Key insights

    Ways to optimise

    What affects your wedding budget?

    Guest count

The biggest driver. Catering, venue size and rooms all scale with every guest you add.

    City & venue

Metro venues cost more: Mumbai and Delhi NCR sit 25–30% above a typical city, smaller towns about 10% below.

    Wedding style

Budget, standard, premium or luxury changes décor, food and entertainment spends across every function.

    Functions & days

Each extra function adds about 10% and each extra day about 15%. Combining functions saves the most.

    Methodology

    How this is calculated

The budget calculator starts from a typical Indian wedding cost per guest and adjusts it for your city, style, catering, number of days and functions. It then splits the amount across 12 spending categories and your selected functions, so you can brief vendors with a realistic number for each.

    Estimate = guests × ₹4,500 base cost × city factor (0.90 to 1.30) × style factor (0.75 budget, 1.00 standard, 1.35 premium, 1.80 luxury) × catering factor (0.95 veg, 1.00 veg + non-veg, 1.20 premium).

Duration multiplies the estimate by 1.00 for one day up to 1.60 for five or more days, and every function after the first adds 10%.

A 10% contingency is added on top, and the indicative range is 14% either side of the estimate.

90% of the total is split across 12 categories (catering 25%, venue 20%, décor 12% and so on), nudged towards décor and photography for premium weddings and towards food and venue for budget weddings.

The function split uses typical weights: wedding 38%, reception 24%, sangeet 16%, cocktail 10%, and 6–8% for roka, haldi, mehndi and other functions.

    • Totals above ₹10,000 are rounded to the nearest ₹100.
    • Gold jewellery, honeymoon and pre-wedding shoots vary widely and are only partly covered by the category split.

    Questions

    Frequently asked

At standard style with mixed veg and non-veg catering, a three-day, five-function wedding for 400 guests in Delhi NCR comes to about ₹45 lakh including a 10% contingency, or roughly ₹11,300 per guest. The same wedding in a smaller city is about 28% less.

A common starting split is about 25% for catering, 20% for venue and accommodation, 12% for décor, 8% each for photography, outfits and jewellery, and the rest for music, makeup, transport, invitations, gifts and rituals. The calculator shifts this split when you choose a premium or budget style.

Almost every wedding has last-minute costs: extra guests, overtime, tips, transport and small purchases. Keeping 10% aside means these do not eat into the amounts you have promised vendors.

Yes. Choose "I know my budget" and enter your total. The calculator keeps 10% as contingency, splits the rest across categories and functions, and tells you how your budget compares with our estimate for the choices you made.

Yes. Jewellery and outfits each get about 8% of the allocation. If your family already owns heirloom jewellery, move that share to the categories that matter more to you.

Guest count, number of functions and city drive most of the cost. Trimming the guest list, combining smaller functions, using one venue for several events and choosing weekday or off-season dates usually save the most.
