‘Bellary king’ conducts Rs 500 crore lavish wedding amid cash crunch
The wedding of 21-year-old Brahmani Reddy to industrialist Rajiv Reddy will stay in the news for a long time as the extravaganza and the opulence with which former minister and mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy organised his daughter's wedding have managed to raise many eyebrows.
The reported 500 crore wedding budget has irked many and is reportedly under the radar of income tax sleuths.
The multi-crore wedding was attended by more than 50,000 guests, including many politicians from both the ruling and opposing parties and numerous celebrities from Telugu, Tamil and Kannada film industries.
As the tainted former minister who is out on bail was banned by the Supreme Court from entering Bellary, he recreated his hometown in Bangalore Palace grounds.
The enormous set which was erected for the wedding was based on the erstwhile empire of Vijayanagara, completed with temples of Hampi and Tirupati. The ancestral houses of both the bride and the groom were recreated on the 36-acre palace ground and a replica of the bride's former school was also erected there.
The Tirupati temple recreated at the palace grounds by the art team he hired from Bollywood was complete with seven doors of the famed temple that led up to the wedding ‘mandap’ fashioned like the original temple which was adorned with a 10-feet idol of Lord Balaji.
The inside of the wedding hall was also like a royal palace with fountains, pillars with intricate designs, orchids and other ornamentals flowers adored all the wall. While, the bride and her family were adorned in diamonds and gold from head to toe, the utensils used for the wedding rituals were either gold or silver.
According to reports, the bride was wearing a wedding saree worth rs 17 crore and her diamond jewellery is worth about rs 90 core!
The wedding procession on the previous day included artistes and dancers from different parts of the country and also many Samba dancers from Brazil.
Well, those who know Janardhan Reddy is not surprised with this opulence, as the mining czar believe he is the reincarnation of the powerful Vijayanagara King Krishnadevaraya!
Other than the ministers, MPs, MLAs and other politicians the wedding was attended by many film stars, including Tamil actors Vishal, Radhika, Meena, Telugu actors Brahmanandam, Sharath Babu, B Sarojadevi, Malashri, Saikumar, Sadhu Kokila, Suman, Kannada stars Puneeth Rajkumar, Ravichandran, Geetha Shivarajkumar, director Sai Prakash, Jayanthi, Dwarakish, Jaggesh, Srinath, Ganesh, Bullet Prakash etc...
Well, the wedding extravaganza didn't end there the couple and their families had a procession on Wednesday evening on chariots just like the erstwhile royal families. The festival is still on and the couple and some of the guests will now travel to Bellary in special aircraft where rest of the bash will take place.
Meanwhile, speculations are going on the source of the former minister's income as his assets were frozen by the court earlier and he was in jail for the past 4 years, he took a right step while selecting the return gifts. All the wedding guests were given sandalwood and tulsi saplings along with a box of sweets as return gifts!
