What is that 'X' factor that makes you the best wedding planner?
After the box office hit Bollywood debut of Anushka Sharma and Ranvir Singh, 'Band Baajaa Baaraat', everyone wants to be a wedding planner. It looked so easy and stylish to dance at the weddings and steal the show. But, the real wedding planner does not roam around in wedding lehengas, hair open and dolled up face, but will be in their most comfortable dress, running behind the electrician to fix the fuse. It is a tedious, but interesting profession in the wedding industry that can fetch you some good money. Planning your sister's wedding is definitely an add-on, but not everything that you are expected of. Here is some skill set that every wedding planner should have, despite the cultural differences in every part of our country.
#1 Communicate- Talk, Speak and Listen!
You may need to have deep conversations with the bride and the groom, and also their parents to know their expectations and necessities. You can brush up your diplomatic skills and meditation habit to keep your calm. Their interests may conflict and contradict or may at times not fit into their budget. You have to bring them all under one shelter. Since almost all wedding vendors hate working under a wedding planner, you need to be highly professional and respectful to get things done, your way. A simple gap in the communication thread, every other effort goes in vain.
#2 Creative- Out of the box is now mainstream!
No client will want a replica unless it is a celebrity wedding copy with one-tenth of the budget. Yes! you need to be super creative to make things have a signature of your own. You can be inspired by magazines, online portals and photography pages. You collect them up and make an idea book. This will help you get ideas, but there should be still your personal touch which will make the client remember you.
#3 Organisation- it's all about your skill
You have to create the perfect checklist and make sure everything happens on time. Whether it is your responsibility or not, you need to ensure that every task happens on time. If it is the tailor's mistake, you cannot play the blame game. Instead, find a solution. Your disaster management skills will come in handy for this profession. If you are a constant procrastinator, keep it aside for personal life.
#4 Money Management
Wedding involves a lot of money flow. You should know where every penny of your client goes and guarantee the best deal. Even for a luxury wedding, you have to be careful about spending the money as it is important for every person, whether rich or poor. A workable budget should be on priority and any unseen expense should also be seen by a wedding planner.
Last but not the least, remember that there is no room for your tastes, it is all about the client. If you think, you have all these within you, you can get ready for the 'Band Baaja Baarat'.
