Tips to choose your Wedding Invitation Card

Organising a wedding is no piece of cake. You need to give immense attention to each and every detail to have a memorable wedding. One such element which needs your attention is while choosing your wedding card.

We Indians give a lot of importance to wedding cards. We see them as a decorative piece which gives the guests a hint about the flamboyance of the upcoming wedding. They include images of the divine figures, traditions and a lot more.

A Hindu wedding card is not like the Christian and Muslim wedding cards and vice versa. Each community incorporates their religious figures and representations on the cards.

Selecting a wedding card is not an easy task. Like other things too much colour and designs could spoil the whole thing. If you apply logic to the wedding card concept then they are just a piece of paper that contains the information about the upcoming wedding to which you are invited. So do we really need to add all these pomp and show on these cards?

Well, it is the personal choice of a person so we are nobody to judge you.  But we could help you to select the most appropriate wedding card.

Your wedding budget should be the most important factor while selecting the card. So think about how much you could spend for the cards. If you don't mind spending a fortune on it then you could go for elaborate and innovative designs. The paper quality could also be decided based on the amount of money you are willing to spend.

Ivory is the most used colour in wedding cards. It is a soothing colour and is very easy to the eye. Golden and yellowish gold are other preferred colours. But if you are having a theme wedding then you should pick your card colours according to that theme.

The embellishments and designs too should be based on the theme. Even the shape and the material of the card should be based on that. For example, if you are having a beach theme wedding then a golden card with all the religious motifs and quotes will not go with the theme. In such a situation you should go for a pastel colour card which also would give the guests a hint about the beach theme.

It is also better to avoid a lot of embellishments such as coloured stones, ribbons etc on the wedding card. Honestly, these could give your card a jarring look. People hardly consider wedding cards as souvenirs unless it is an innovative or unique piece of art. So it is better to avoid jarring embellishments.

If you have relatives who live far away and you cannot deliver the cards personally to them, you will have to send the cards through the post. So it is better to keep your card lightweight. Otherwise, it will create problems while sending the cards.

Another ambiguity you may have is related to the content of the card.  If you are really confused about what all information you need to include in a wedding invitation.

If you come from a conservative family you will have to include the religious and cultural traditions of your family in the content of the invitation.

A basic card will have brief information about the family of the bride and the groom. The date, time and venue of the function should be clear. If the venue is not a popular one then it is better to get a small map printed on the card. The information should be error free and the spelling should also be correct.

These tips are for a basic wedding card. If you are having a big fat wedding you need to include information about the pre-wedding and post-wedding functions, if you are planning to invite the particular guest for all these functions, in the card. Otherwise, you need to print separate cards for each and every function.

These days the millennials prefer to have simple cards with their caricatures. Cards which include the pictorial love story of the couple are also in the vogue.
