The titular head of the erstwhile Mysore royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar married Princess Trishika Kumari of the royal family of Dungarpur in Rajasthan on June 27, 2016, Monday morning at the 'Kalyana Mantapa' of the Amba Vilas Palace in Mysore.
The royal couple tied the knot at an auspicious time called the 'karkataka lagna' and 'savitra' muhurta between 9.05 am and 9.35 am. The couple got engaged in June last year.
Members from about 80 royal families and many prominent people from all over the country attended the royal wedding of the year. The wedding was held according to royal traditions and included around 50 rituals. The 5-day-long wedding rituals commenced on Friday and will culminate on June 28.
The traditional wedding will be followed by two grand receptions - on June 28 at Mysore palace and on July 2 Wodeyar palace in Bengaluru.
The 24-year-old US-educated Yaduveer is the adopted son of Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, the widow of the former king Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar. His coronation ceremony took place on May 28, 2015.
Though the Indian royals lost their power after the Independence of the country, many of them are still very wealthy and the Mysore royal family can be counted among the wealthy royals. They are also revered by the local population.
The last wedding which was conducted in the Amba Vilas Palace was that of the former ruler Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar and Pramoda Devi Wadiyar 40 years ago.
