The man who was part of the world's longest marriage breathed his last at the age of 110 last week.
Karam Chand and his wife Kartari of 90 years were residents of Girlington in England. They became celebrities after they celebrated their 90th wedding anniversary last year, becoming the oldest married couple in the world.
According to his family, Karam Chand died of natural causes at a hospital and was short of celebrating his 111th birthday in six weeks.
The Indian-origin couple, originally from Punjab, had an arranged marriage in 1925. The couple migrated to England in 1965 where Karam Chand secured work in woolen mills in Bradford.
The couple has eight children, 27 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
Earlier, when he was asked about the longevity he said the credit goes to the healthy and wholesome food they eat and the hard working lifestyle they had while they were young.
Though they were believed to have the longest marriage, they were never officially recognised by the Guinness World Record. Before them, K Philipose Thomas and Sosamma Thomas from Kerala, India, have celebrated 88 years of marriage. But like the Chand couple, they were not officially recognised by the Guinness World Record.
The oldest marriage, according to the Guinness World Record was held by American couple Herbert and Zelmyra Fisher, who had an 86-year union but both have since died.
