Most marriages have ups and downs. There may be times when these downs will dominate the ups. But it is common in every relationship.
The first thing the couples should realise is that there is no perfect relationship in this world.
Adjustments and compromises are needed to keep any relationship on track. But that doesn't mean that you always need to be the ‘yes-sayer’ in the relationship. Compromises are needed from both sides. You should know when to say yes and no.
Accept each other's good and bad qualities. Nobody is perfect. Trying to dominate each other in the relationship will be disastrous.
The couple should develop the ability to communicate properly. Share each others' opinions and dreams. You should include one another while taking important decisions in a relationship. Avoid trying to force your opinion on the partner.
When trouble arises don't try to blame each other for the situation; you should work together to get out of the murk. Be open to your partner's feelings.
Don't label your partner or call he/she names such as coward or weak hearted, especially in front of others. If you think your partner lacks certain skills or qualities then try to talk to them reasonably and work to get them out of the situation.
Respect each other’s views and opinions. Understand that you can be wrong at many times so a second opinion is always good.
Another important thing is to have a sense of humour and a sense to enjoy it.
You should spend quality time with each other. It would also help you to de-stress and cement your relationship.
Try to retain the passion for each other throughout the life.
Another important factor is to provide space to each other in a relationship. But you should make sure that the 'me space' doesn't drift you apart.
