How to keep your bridal mehendi colour dark and long

Henna and Indian weddings have a very deep connection. Not only the brides love to adorn their hands with mehendi but there is a pre-wedding ceremony itself to celebrate the importance of mehendi. It is said that deeper the colour of the mehendi deeper the bond between the couple.

Deep maroon is considered as the perfect colour for the mehendi stain. If you follow these simple steps then you could keep the colour of your mehendi designs for a long period.

Usually, the mehendi is applied a couple of days before the wedding. So it is better if you could get your manicures and pedicures done before applying mehendi. Don't rush applying the mehendi, be relaxed and take the time to get the designs perfect.

Take a cup and make a solution of lemon juice, sugar and water. Apply this mixture on the mehendi using a piece of cotton once the mehendi starts to dry. This will help the paste to stick to your skin and darker the mehendi colour.

Don't wrinkle your hands once the mehendi is applied it will distort the designs and spoil the look. Avoid contact with water for quite some time. It is better to keep your henna on for at least 8 and a maximum of 12 hours.

If you have applied the mehendi in the night hours then it is better to remove it the next day. Keep your hands wrapped in a cling film to protect it from getting damaged during sleep.

Wrapping up the hands also will help to get a dark shade to the mehendi as keeping your hands warm will give it a darker shade, but make sure that the mehendi is completely dry before wrapping hands, otherwise it will spoil the design. Another way to apply heat is to heat a few cloves in a pan and run your hands carefully over the fumes of the cloves.

While removing the mehendi don't apply water, instead, remove it by gently rubbing your hands together. Once the dried mehendi paste is completely removed apply cooking oil or even Vicks will also give it a dark shade.

Avoid using soaps on the parts mehendi is applied and also avoid contact with chemicals, including shampoo and conditioner for at least 12 hours to retain the deep colour. Also, don't shave or wax your hands after mehendi is applied.
