Those who want to head to a different place away from the noise and the hordes of tourists to spend their honeymoon days should visit Lakshadweep which lies on the south-western coast of India.
This archipelago that lies in the Arabian Sea has got 36 islands which are blessed with sun-kissed beaches bordered by lush coconut groves and exotic landscapes. It is the tiniest Union Territory of India and the only coral island chain in the country. Among the 36 islands and 12 atolls, only Agatti, Amini, Andrott, Bitra, Chetlat, Kadmat, Kalpeni, Kavaratti, Kiltan and Minicoy are inhabited.
The archipelago is beautiful and spell-binding with coral reefs, aquamarine colour water, and pristine beaches, tasty seafood delicacies and a great place for fishing and adventurous activities. Before you decide on the place we also would like to tell you that the islands are restricted area and prior permission from the Administration is required to visit.
Another hurdle is that the administration has put restrictions on the entry of tourists to prevent the crowd and thus reducing environmental damage. Minicoy is the only island which is open to foreign tourists.
The islands have got tropical climate and it is pleasant most of the year around. September to May is the best period to visit the island. There are a couple of resorts in the archipelago where you could stay.
While you are here with your partner you could go for snorkelling in Agatti. You could enjoy a walk with your loved one on the pristine beaches and visit the beautiful lagoons of the island.
You could go for scuba diving and see the coral reefs and other water sports such as kayaking, kite surfing and canoeing could also be enjoyed. Among all the islands, Andretti is the most beautiful with its glittering water and natural beauty. You could collect shell-souvenirs while you are in Lakshadweep and enjoy the fresh air (hard to enjoy in the cities).
Kochi is the gateway to the islands. There are six passenger ships plying between Kochi, Kerala, and the islands - MV Kavaratti, MV Arabian Sea, MV Lakshadweep Sea, MV Amindivi and MV Minicoy. It would take about 14 to 18 hours to reach the island from Kochi.
There is also a flight from Kochi to Agatti which takes approximately one hour and thirty minutes. Boat services are available between all the islands and there is a helicopter service between Agatti and Bangaram islands.
