It is called the trend setter of the modern Arabic world. The country still has got many ancient laws especially related to marriage. The symbolism of circular shape of the wedding rings is also related to Egyptian culture. According to them the wedding ring represents the marriage - without beginning, without end.
It is predominantly a Sunni Muslim country. The country only officially recognizes Islam, Christianity and Judaism. So the Egyptian marriages are mostly like an Arab wedding.
In an Egyptian wedding the family arranges the alliance and the groom has to bring two gifts to the girl's family. A sum of money called Mahr has to be paid to the girl's family. The groom also has to gift gold jewelry to the girl and this tradition is called Shabka.
After this a lavish engagement party will be arranged. Later a wedding date will be fixed.
Traditional Egyptian bride wears bright jewel coloured dresses. A veil is a must for the bride. The groom would wear a ceremonial tribal costume.
As we said an Egyptian wedding is almost like an Arab wedding.
The marriages are usually held in a marriage hall. The bride and groom's family will sign a wedding contract during the ceremony. It will be held in the presence of a Mazoon, who provides license to the wedding.
The wedding celebration is marked by the drinking of a rose water juice called sharpat. A traditional Egyptian wedding will have belly-dancers and singers. Another important tradition is the candelabra dance.
Towards the end of the celebration the bride and the groom would leave for the groom's house. In rural areas the bride travels to her new house in a colourful procession. She will mostly travel on a camel and the wedding party will accompany her with songs and dances.
In Egypt there is a tradition that after the wedding for a week, the bride’s mother will cook all the meals for the newlywed couples.
