Kanchipuram Bridal Sarees!
Even after the influx of gowns and designer lehengas, Kanchipuram sarees still rules the roost at a traditional South Indian wedding.
A beautiful Kanchipuram saree with its breathtaking motifs and colour combinations can give a bride the royal look. It is considered as a symbol of grandeur.
The sensual beautiful sarees have also put Kanchipuram district in Tamil Nadu on the world map. Saree weaving in Kanchipuram is centuries old tradition for its inhabitants. It is estimated that there are around 5,000 families in the district which are involved in saree weaving.
Pure mulberry silk is used to weave a pure Kanchipuram saree, and they are mostly hand woven by traditional weavers. Most of the sarees will have a body in a different shade than that of the pallu which will be pure zari. They will be mainly in contrasting colours. They are woven separately and then interlocked delicately. On an average, it will take about 8 days to get a Kanchipuram saree completed.
A pure Kanchipuram saree will have wide borders. The designs may vary from saree to saree. Mostly earthy and natural or floral motifs are found in the traditional sarees. Sometimes temple designs are also found in a Kanchipuram saree.
The price tag also varies between Rs 2500 to about Rs 1 lakh. If you are someone who owns a Kanchipuram saree it is better to use a dry cleaning method to clean it and don't use any plastic cover to keep them.
