Why should you go to a place which is crowded on a honeymoon when you have other options? The North Eastern region of India is not much explored when compared to other parts of the country.
Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh is one such region which is hardly explored. Nestled between lofty mountains and blessed with lush greenery, the place of impeccable beauty is slowly attracting honeymooners.
Though tourism in the North East is still in infancy Tawang has got the good infrastructure to meet the needs of tourists.
Tawang which is located at a height of 10,000 feet from sea level shares its borders with Bhutan to the west and Tibet to the north. It is also one of the least populated districts in India.
Its virgin landscape, which oozes romance and freshness, will be a paradise for the honeymooners. It is also a place for pilgrimage and adventure.
While you are there you can visit the Tibetan monastery- which is also the largest of its kind in the country.
The places you can visit with your love of the life includes the snow clad Sela pass and the spectacular Nuranang Waterfalls. The Sela Pass is snow covered in all seasons and the view of the Great Himalayas from there is heavenly.
The Pass connects Tawang with Tezpur and Guwahati in Assam. The Sela Lake is also a splendid sight.
The Sangetsar Lake is a must visit place. It is a fine example of the wonders of nature. It was originally a pasturage which becomes a lake as a result of an earthquake.
The lake is also one of the remotest high altitude lakes in the country and is also known locally as Madhuri jheel or lake. Yes of course named after the 'dhak dhak girl' Madhuri Dixit. Some parts of the Bollywood film ‘Koyla’, in which she starred, was shot here. The lake provides the perfect ambience for the honeymooners.
But one thing you should know is that you can't just pack your bags and visit the place like any other place in the country.
As we said the region is too close to the Tibetan border (which is controlled by China) you will need to get special Inner Line Permit from the government which is available in Kolkata, Guwahati, Tezpur, and New Delhi.
The nearest airport is Tezpur in Assam. From there you can travel by road which is a steep hill journey and will take 12 hours or there is daily helicopter service run by the Arunachal Pradesh Government. From Guwahati, the capital of Assam, it will take 16 hours by road.
You will get buses, taxis or even shared taxis to Tawang from Tezpur.
