Scenic hill stations of Maharashtra
Those who want to go for a trip to this western state have a lot of options that include the hill stations Lonavala, Khandala and Mahabaleshwar. These places make perfect locations to spend your honeymoon.
Lonavala is about 64 km from Pune and has numerous picturesque landscapes.
Places you should visit with your partner include Tiger's Leap which is about 8 km from Lonavala. The place also known as Waghdari is a cliff-top with an elevation of about 650 m and offers a panoramic view of the lush green valleys and mist laden hills. It is also an echo point and the nearby waterfall also attracts many tourists.
The Kune waterfall is also a great place to spend some cozy time. It is nestled between the scenic mountains of Lonavala and the adjacent tourist place Khandala. This waterfall is encompassed in the greenery and is also an ideal spot for swimming. This stunning waterfall also provides great photo opportunities.
The Lohagad Fort or the iron fort is situated in the Sahyadri range of Lonavala and is at a height of 3,400 ft. The fort has a deep rooted history of Maharashtra and was once under the control of the great Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji. It is a protected monument and gives a bird's eye view of the nearby places.
The nearby Karla and Bhaja caves are also worth visiting. They are considered among the oldest Buddhist cave temples in the country. The Karla cave is the largest Hinayana Buddhist temple in India.
They are located among green surroundings and there is also a beautiful waterfall near the Bhaja cave. Carved into rocky hillsides they are the finest examples of rock-cut architecture.
The Rajmachi region with its twin peaks named Manoranjan and Shrivardhan offers beautiful views. Nearby places include Kondhavi fort, wildlife sanctuary and Rajmachi fort which offers some of the most breathtakingly stunning views of the scenic region.
You could go for trekking in the Scorpion's sting which is a hill that lies about 625 m above the sea level. It is known as Scorpion's Sting for its peculiar shape.
Mahabaleshwar that lies about 120 km away from Pune is also a hill station that is blessed with evergreen forests and pleasant climate throughout the year. There are many religious places including the ancient Mahabaleshwar Temple, Panchganga Temple, and Krishnabai Temple. You can go for a boat ride in Venna Lake, Pratapgad Fort, the magnificent Lingamala Falls, Elephant’s Head Point (the rock formations resembles an elephant's head), Tapola, Lodwick Point and much more.
The Lingamala Falls is about 6 km from Mahabaleshwar. The 600 ft clear waterfall cascades into the Venna Lake and is a spectacular sight during the monsoon period. Two nearby attractions include Dhobi and Chinaman’s waterfalls.
