May 11 2018
Heaven blessed with rains when the Trans couples tied the knot
It is the first time in Kerala, that a transgender couple registered their marriage officially. There were around 500 guests to shower their love and blessings to the magical moment when Ishaan and Surya became one in the bond of marriage. When she turned to be the groom and he became the bride, Kerala welcomed the newly wedded couple with a ray of positivity. May 10 will always be remembered in the history of Kerala with this amazing transsexual couple.
Ishaan (33), who did surgery from a woman to man and Surya(31) who transformed from a man to woman has been married as per the Special Marriage Act, by turning the cultural stereotypes of Kerala. Both of them had the blessings from their respective family members and the function was filled with a euphoria which was never experienced in a wedding. Ishaan is a member of Oasis, a self-help group exclusively for transgender and Surya is the member of State Board of Transgender Justice and a known face to Malayalis as a TV actor.
The couple was in news from April when Ishaan announced his wedding with his love Surya, who is a transgender activist and a television anchor. The transgender community in Kerala was running across to organise this wedding and they all were present to witness this moment. Apart from family and friends, media was a major presence in this wedding that took place in the capital of the state, Thiruvananthapuram.
The known faces who attended the wedding include MP TN Seema, activist and academician J Devika, Kadakampally Surendran, Mayor V P Prasanth and the cine dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi. The function was full of fun and entertainment with the bride and the groom being the highlight of it. Surya looked gorgeous in her bright red wedding saree with traditional gold ornaments while Ishaan danced to the stage with the members of their community and friends.
Sisily Jose, a trans activist said that this is a step forward to the transgender empowerment and it wouldn't have been possible, 2-3 years back to hold such a grand wedding for this couple. As per Jagadish Bab, a guest from Kovalam, no one should be denied the happiness or opportunities to live a happy life. Another transgender person from Thiruvananthapuram expressed her joy for being a part of this wedding and appreciated that this wedding is as same as any other Kerala wedding.
Congratulations Surya and Ishaan. Wedding Street wishes you every happiness in life.
