Green weddings are the need of the hour. Nowadays, more and more people are willingly accepting the green wedding norms to make sure that the celebrations don't put any kind of burden on the environment.
The latest into this trend is the wedding of Rajesh George Joseph and Nissin Mary Varghese, which was held at the Seema auditorium at Perumbavoor, Ernakulam, on Thursday, January 12, 2017. The wedding party became a model and inspiration to others by avoiding plastic cups and plates. They used reusable materials for the wedding thus reducing un-perishable waste.
From plates, glasses to decor everything was reusable and no flex boards or artificial decorations were seen in or around the wedding venue. The venue was decorated with fabrics and no artificial flowers were used.
According to reports, the couple decided to have an environment-friendly wedding as per the instructions of the district administration's 'green protocol' initiative.
The district administration had issued such a notice two weeks ago and this was first such wedding in Ernakulam after that. District collector K Mohammed Y Safirulla has recently directed all the wedding service providers in the city to adhere to the green protocol.
The disposable items are used on a large scale in most of the weddings for decor, serving food etc and these non-degradable items, in the end, pollutes the environment.
The Thursday's wedding was monitored by the district Suchitwa Mission representatives and the couple were given a gift and certificate for their effort.
